Yg Bhg Datin Rahmah Binti Mahmood graduated with a double Bachelor of Science degree in both Marketing and Mass Communications from Syracuse University, New York. She also obtained a Master in Journalism (PR) from the University of Southern California (USC).
She started her own automotive spares manufacturing company, Malaysian Automotive Lighting Sdn Bhd (“Malaysian Automotive”) about 20 years ago in Penang with Robert Bosch Gmbh as the initial partners and later with Magnetti Mirelli of Italy. Malaysian Automotive is now a global manufacturing partnership with Automotive Lighting Reutlingen Gmbh, Germany, manufacturing automotive head lamps and rear lamps for companies such as Proton, Perodua, Suzuki, Mazda and other international car manufacturers and currently she is the Director and shareholder of Malaysian Automotive.
She was then appointed to the Board of TA Enterprise Berhad as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 16 August 2007, a position she holds to-date. She has also diversified her business dealings into Independent Environmental Monitoring and sits on the Boards of Spanfield Sdn Bhd and Clearwater Towers Sdn Bhd, an environmental company. Currently, she is looking into being involved in renewable energy such as solar energy and other manufacturing concerns in Malaysia through a company Solarah Sdn Bhd.
She has over 25 years of experience in business management, contract negotiations and manufacturing practices. She also has assisted the Malaysian government in bringing in foreign investment into the country especially in the field of manufacturing.
Firas Sho Umemoto’s entrepreneurship career began at a relatively young age and spanned across a broad range of sectors including automotive, fashion and the creative arts. Having largely focused in sales and business development, he has extensive experience in driving partnerships with both public and private sector stakeholders.
He also founded the human resource company Bayu Senandung Pte Ltd which began by specializing its services on recruitment for hospitality businesses. Under his direct leadership, the start-up was able to rapidly expand into the provision of technical recruitment to one of the largest solar manufacturers in the Malaysia. Firas also executed a partnership with a Singaporean Agency that successfully led to the company’s international commercial footprint.
Since his inception as Director in 2010, Firas spearheaded the acquisition of a workshop which allowed SMAS to seamlessly continue its delivery of critical services to the Malaysian Armed Forces, Malaysian Ministry of Health and Royal Malaysian Police. His involvement remains a critical backbone in supporting sales opportunities and developing robust customer relations.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Firas led the expansion of a new business vertical for SMAS focusing on the delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). His comprehensive network and understanding of the commercial landscape has allowed the company to successfully chart its entrance into this new business segment.
Dr. Richard Fong is one of our senior leadership team members who joined us recently from New Zealand. We are fortunate to have him as he is a highly trained medical scientist and is a rare individual who specializes in ‘infectious disease’ in New Zealand and globally.
In his field of study, Dr. Fong is well recognized for his active role in scientific research and the discovery of new innovations in diagnosing “Tuberculosis”. He has assisted many South East Asian countries establish their research protocol and has spearheaded many projects led by World Health Organization (WHO).
He is also a creator and holder of three patents for an antimicrobial project that offered protection of more than 30-days with a single application. Dr. Fong intends to transfer this ground breaking intellectural property back to Malaysia (his home-country).
Based on his expansive experience internationally, Dr. Richard Fong is responsible for creating a business profile for SMAS globally, with a heavy focus on PPE procurement. His scientific and technical knowledge and experience is a valued asset for SMAS and will be beneficial to our future expansion to help people worldwide in the fight against this COVID-19 pandemic.
